Approvals of vehicles and electrification systems
As an enginext we take care of the entire process necessary for the homologation of electric cars and electric vehicle retrofit kits in general. In both cases, the certificate issued by the local authority is only valid for circulation and sale on Italian territory, but the partial tests performed (tests) are carried out according to UNECE world regulations. This means that, for eventual exportation to other markets, it may not be necessary to repeat the entire homologation process, but only the administrative procedure, thus streamlining time and costs.

Specifically, we assist our customers in the processes of:
- European (series) type-approval (Regulation EU/2018/858 relating to vehicles of category M,N,O or Regulation EU/167/2013 – Mother Regulation relating to agricultural machinery, trailers and equipment)
- national or European small series approval;
- national or European individual approval (Regulation EU/2018/858 Art. 44 and 45).
What is it about
Type approval is an official procedure required for vehicles of any category to circulate on public roads. Like conventional vehicles, electric vehicles must also obtain authorisation from the relevant ministerial technical offices in order to be marketed and used on the road.
The same process must also be followed in the case of converting vehicles with endothermic engines into vehicles with exclusively electric traction.
In fact, the Retrofit Decree stipulates that the manufacturer of the electrification kit for sale does not have to re-approve the entire vehicle, but only the system. This procedure ensures compliance with the safety, performance and quality requirements of the law and allows authorised workshops to fit the device according to the manufacturer’s instructions. This regulation applies in particular to electrical retrofitting devices, i.e. systems consisting of a power train, a battery pack for the exclusive supply of energy and traction power, an interface for recharging, and any other components essential for operation.

At the end of the analysis, we provide a detailed document that allows the manufacturer to rectify the deficiencies found and proceed with the verification phase to issue the certification.
Testing and inspection
We subject the vehicle or component to testing on test tracks or in a laboratory; this is carried out in-house or through specialised partner facilities. If the product passes the checks by meeting the required regulatory standards, we draw up the homologation dossier (a summary of all tests and their results). We then send it to the Technical Services of the national or foreign Ministry responsible for issuing the homologation code.
